Minimalism On the West Coast
Photography by Ethan Jones
San Diego, California, USA
Ethan Jones has been shooting since high school, beginning his surf photography passion with an underwater film camera. “It was a cheap and easy way to get cool photos of surfers", he recalls, “since then I've upgraded to a water housing for my DSLR. This has immensely changed my eye and gives me a longer gap on time to get the photos I want. “
A self-proclaimed minimalist, Ethan says that his goal is to “capture a landscape with a subject in the distance, giving the photo a minimalist feeling.” Ultimately, he wants to capture bigger swells and create photos that are jaw dropping. Later this year, Ethan will be taking his minimalist eye to Tahiti to capture photos of Teahupoo, one of the heaviest waves in the world.
The one thing he has learned as an artist is to “never be content with your work. There is always room to grow and I truly believe the best of the best never stop learning.”
