You are sharing the music video to your latest single, “Pseudo Confidence”. What is this song about?
This song was written about relationships that are better left in the past. There is a two way street, and with traffic in only one direction, the road with more cars is gonna deteriorate quite a bit faster from all the tires. You can only try so much as a person to maintain a friendship; a relationship without reciprocation is like a once flourishing flower without water.
How is this song different from your songs off the “Resistance” EP? How does it show your evolution as a band?
In this song we maintain the heavy punk and rock influences from the “Resistance” EP but also add in an almost pop element making it much catchier and more memorable than our previous work without compromising the rawness at its roots.
What is the concept for the “Pseudo Confidence” music video? How did this develop?
In this video, there is a happy cardboard boxer that is boxing a sad cardboard boxer. This represents the internal struggle we all battle with. At the beginning of the video he tries to prepare for the confrontation with his negative half through vice, but quickly realizes this is not the path to success. He decides to take an active role in his mental and physical health, becoming more active and eating cleanly and ultimately winning the battle with his dark doppelgänger.
What was the making of the video like? What were some struggles and memorable moments?
The whole process was super fun. We had a good time working with Logan the videographer and feel like it all went pretty smooth. At one point when we were in the park during a workout scene, a couple Jehovah’s Witnesses came up to say hello; so we of course had to incorporate them into the video.
How has this experience helped the band grow?
I feel like music videos are always a good bonding experience because they are just another means of being fun and creative together. Its fun seeing spur of the moment ideas rise and become set in stone elements of the video later down the road.
What’s next for Cardboard Boxer?
We are releasing a full length album called “Current Youth” with Postmark Records. The plan is to follow the record up with an album release show and some touring.
