New York City musician Hello Lightfoot shares her debut single, “Twenty-Seven”. Hello Lightfoot opens up about overcoming insecurities, recording in Los Angeles, and giving up everything to make a relationship work.
New York City, USA
Hello Lightfoot is your recent solo project. How is it different from your previous projects? What kind of outlet does it give you?
Hello Lightfoot is a much more naked version of my stage persona. I stripped away the sequins, the confetti, and the wild party antics everyone is used to seeing in my other project High Waisted. Hello Lightfoot is a return to self: a little older and a little wiser. The message is heavier and the delivery is more calm. Artists need to evolve to grow. This new direction is necessary for my development as a creator.
You are sharing your debut single, "Twenty Seven". What is this song about?
It's about being willing to give up everything to try to make a relationship work with someone you know in your heart you need to walk away from. It's about lying to yourself, desperation, and making amends with oneself for poor decisions.
How do you think "Twenty Seven" shows your growth as a musician and artist?
It's a very honest track, both musically and lyrically. I overcame a lot of insecurities as a musician during this process. I stripped away the comforts and tricks I would use to hide those insecurities like lots of reverb or too many guitars. I surrendered to vulnerability and I think it let's my artistry and vocals shine through.
Although you are from New York City, you recorded this single in Los Angeles. What was the benefit of coming out to the West Coast? How did it inspire you?
Location changes your perspective. I was lucky to work with Kyle McCammon aka PLUS in LA to bring these old song ideas to life. He helped me create a final product that matched what I always intended for these songs to sound like. We recorded the EP in NYC at The Buddy Project and in LA - it perfectly meshed both of our worlds.
What's next for Hello Lightfoot?
I'll be releasing my next single, 'Shame' on Dec 3. You can expect to hear the full EP, 'Every Circle Needs a Center' very soon, set to release in April of 2022
